Chapter 606: Taking Action
Chapter 606: Taking Action
Inside the specimens room, Chu Miao was given a tour of the place and found that there were many creatures and crystal cores inside.
There were zombies from the very first batch who had nothing but rotten flesh falling off their bodies and twisted necks.
These zombies didn’t even have a crystal core in their brains.
There were also other zombies who were a little more advanced but were still mindless creatures who knew nothing but to attack any human who got close.
Moving on to the next and the next, Chu Miao found zombies in different stages all placed in cages inside the specimens room.
There were level-zero zombies all the way to level four.
There were also mutated creatures including rats, rabbits, pigs, cows, chicken, ducks, and other domestic and wild animals.
Chu Miao hadn’t expected the lab to have collected such a variety of creatures for experiments.
Luckily, apart from zombies, there weren’t human beings.
"These test subjects are the ones who helped us develop that drug before that could slow down zombie mutation and evolution. However, we need more subjects with advanced abilities to determine what took them to such a high level. I heard that there are now zombies with intelligence similar to humans. If we don’t find some soon and research the reason they have evolved so much, we might be fighting a losing war with the zombies." Professor Wu explained solemnly.
Chu Miao knew that this was a serious matter. So, she took it seriously.
"Why have the hunting team not found suitable subjects?" Chu Miao asked in confusion.
Even though such zombies were indeed strong, the sect had cultivators and superpower users who could definitely catch them.
So, what happened?
"It’s not that they don’t want to catch them, but the high-level zombies are too cunning. They know how to strategize and hide when they can’t win. We have sent many teams over the last couple of weeks since the news of the zombie king started to spread. But they haven’t caught a single one intact." Professor Song complained as if tattling to his parents.
"The intelligent zombies are indeed more cunning. I have a couple here you guys can use for now. There are also crystal cores from leader-level zombies. You can try to see what is happening with them." Chu Miao finally came clean.
In fact, back in Russia, she had put some zombies in an empty space ring.
She had thought that they would come in handy, she just hadn’t expected them to show their usefulness so quickly.
"Really? You brought evolved zombies as subjects?" Professor Tang almost jumped on the spot after hearing what Chu Miao said.
"Yes. Back in Russia, when that zombie king appeared, I knew that things weren’t that simple. So, I took a few intelligent zombies and put them away then covered it as if I had eliminated them." Chu Miao explained.
In fact, back in that bunker, she had used her light element attack to cover the fact that she had put away a few zombies.
As she spoke, she waved her hand and four zombies appeared in empty cages inside the specimens room.
"Where did you bring us?" One of the zombies asked as soon as it felt free.
"Somewhere you can be useful." Chu Miao replied casually.
However, that short conversation shocked the three professors to their core.
They had just heard about zombies gaining intelligence but actually hadn’t seen one.
This was the first time and it was such a shocking scene to see a dead person talking with such logic.
"They can really speak." Professor Song said in a whisper.
"It looks like it." Professor Wu whispered back.
The professors’ eyes kept moving from the intelligent zombies to the first generation zombies that had nothing but rotting flesh and couldn’t believe that something could change so much.
Barely a year ago, zombies were nothing but mindless dead humans who only knew how to attack and eat human flesh.
Yet at this moment, there were zombies in front of them who looked almost completely human and could think as well.
"Well, I guess now we can get to the second phase of our experiments. Maybe we will find the answer to ending the apocalypse in these zombies." Professor Tang said, already feeling excited.
He wanted to get to work immediately.
"Alright, I have other things to do. If you need anything, just let me know." Chu Miao, seeing how eager they were to get to work, said goodbye and left.
Once she left the lab, Chu Miao went to visit other areas and see how the progress was going.
She especially visited the children who were cultivating diligently and was gratified.
Her Chu family’s legacy hadn’t gone to waste.
So, many young people and even the old were working hard to improve their cultivation.
Once the apocalypse ended, their country would probably turn into a haven of cultivators.
The good thing was that the spiritual energy between the heaven and earth had also increased significantly.
Even though it couldn’t compare to the spiritual energy in the Soul Ring, it was still better than nothing.
Chu Miao went to specifically look for Zhao Ji and see how his progress was and was shocked to find that the boy had actually advanced to the ninth level of Qi refinement at the age of six.
Looking at the boy who was still concentrating on cultivation even though he had accomplished so much at such a young age, Chu Miao somewhat felt inferior and proud.
She used her divine sense to probe the boy and knew that it wouldn’t be long before the boy advanced to the foundation establishment realm.
Seeing how young he was, Chu Miao wondered whether he would be able to withstand the lightning tribulation.
She had to prepare a few more defense talismans and ask Ye Xuan to make a few more defensive array disks to help Zhao Ji protect himself during the lightning tribulation.
